[Ripley can be found standing in the doorway of her room, leaning against the door frame and staring towards Akira's door. There's a notebook in her hand as she watches the people walking down the hallways, occasionally scribbling something down. Ever since the ski area stopped...existing, though, not many people pass through anymore.
When she sees Makoto approaching, she inclines her head towards her.]
[Makoto looks a little surprised to see her outside her door. She just stops, holding her pillow closely.]
Hi Ripley-san.
[a pause]
Are you... keeping watch for us?
[it's a little late-- Makoto knows she's pushing it but she wanted to test the oil for her trap one last time. in fact, there's a straight rod that's partially obscured by the pillow.]
It's a tradition on Fridays at this point, and it's our best chance of surviving... [she sounds a little uncertain, and it flashes across her face. But only a flash, as Ripley's next question provides her a good pivot.]
Oh-- I asked the Staff to give me a UV stick. We're going to set up a trap and hope that that lets us catch the culprits. [she's pauses, and worries at her lip a bit.]
[Ripley nods, tucking her notebook into her jacket pocket.]
Let's hope that we won't actually need it tonight. [But both she and Makoto know that won't be true.] If you don't mind me asking--did you set them up in Akira's room?
[If so, then maybe she can rest a little more easy tonight.]
[Ripley tries to relax her pose a little more, but...it's difficult, with how apprehensive she is. She starts twirling a strand of hair between her fingers.]
You know if I was a monster and I wanted to attack Akira for whatever reason, I'd now know about the trap and be careful around his room. [Just. Saying.] Does anyone else know about this plan, or...?
[Smart girl. Probably more likely to survive this whole ordeal, though...'survival' may not actually be something to look forward to, all things considered.
Something about the people Makoto listed off strikes her as odd, though.]
[Ah. Dumb question. She shakes her head, leaning a little more against the doorframe.] It's fine. You kids can probably handle yourselves. Just don't...do anything too stupid, okay?
[She knows that it's just empty words. Makoto will do whatever she pleases if it means protecting other people.]
There are people with the keys to stopping this. And I would protect them no matter what. One of them just so happens to be someone I'm already good friends with.
... Before Akira, I may as well have been a robot. I did what the adults in my life told me to do, I strived to meet their expectations as much as I could, to make myself as little a burden as possible.
Joining the Phantom Thieves was the first time I was able to do what I thought was right. To put my skills to use for something I truly believe in.
[holy shit they even have card motifs. that's incredible.]
Wish I had a group of friends like that when I was younger. [She grins a little.] Back in college, it was just me and my engineering classmates doing dumb shit. Not that it wasn't fun, of course.
[But maybe she might've had some better chances at work besides corporate military gigs if she'd made more connections...]
Week 3, Thursday
When she sees Makoto approaching, she inclines her head towards her.]
Good to see you.

Hi Ripley-san.
[a pause]
Are you... keeping watch for us?
[it's a little late-- Makoto knows she's pushing it but she wanted to test the oil for her trap one last time. in fact, there's a straight rod that's partially obscured by the pillow.]
no subject
Maybe. [Though her voice definitely sounds affirmative.] You having a sleepover with Akira tonight?
[She tilts her head to the side, looking towards the pillow.]
What've you got there?
no subject
Oh-- I asked the Staff to give me a UV stick. We're going to set up a trap and hope that that lets us catch the culprits. [she's pauses, and worries at her lip a bit.]
It should be only visible by UV light, so...
no subject
Smart. So the culprit doesn't even know that they've been marked until later, when it's revealed via UV light.
[...] You think it'll work? What with, um, the Staff acting strangely this week. They gave Snake a knock-off gun the other day.
no subject
[she looks a little frustrated at that, if it worked in her room and not tomorrow, her plans would be ruined.]
It should also provide trails and clues.
no subject
Let's hope that we won't actually need it tonight. [But both she and Makoto know that won't be true.] If you don't mind me asking--did you set them up in Akira's room?
[If so, then maybe she can rest a little more easy tonight.]
no subject
[they both know that the trap is probably going to be important for tomorrow. No matter of what they'd rather see, there's a high chance that, well...
Obviously, Ripley's keeping watch for a reason.]
no subject
[Ripley tries to relax her pose a little more, but...it's difficult, with how apprehensive she is. She starts twirling a strand of hair between her fingers.]
You know if I was a monster and I wanted to attack Akira for whatever reason, I'd now know about the trap and be careful around his room. [Just. Saying.] Does anyone else know about this plan, or...?
no subject
That's why I didn't tell you how to trigger it.
[she hugs her pillow tighter.]
... But just Akira and Hunter. We'll tell Minato and Shirou later.
no subject
[Smart girl. Probably more likely to survive this whole ordeal, though...'survival' may not actually be something to look forward to, all things considered.
Something about the people Makoto listed off strikes her as odd, though.]
...What about Iwai?
no subject
[she nods, but then tucks a strand of hair behind her hair nervously.]
It's going to be tight. I told Akira that numbers might not work but... there aren't any options I like better, either.
no subject
I swear, if any of you get lured out of the room and end up getting killed....
[She can't help anyone if they're dumb on their own volition. That's the struggles of being a horror movie protag.]
no subject
We'd want to protect the other. And if we're awake, it means we've... got the chance to catch them, doesn't it? Maybe save someone else's life?
I can't contribute anything to our survival beyond my arguments, and that will only go so far. Why wouldn't I try to save them if I could?
no subject
[Ripley sighs, running a hand through her hair.]
I wouldn't be able to stop you, would I?
[Ah. Dumb question. She shakes her head, leaning a little more against the doorframe.] It's fine. You kids can probably handle yourselves. Just don't...do anything too stupid, okay?
[She knows that it's just empty words. Makoto will do whatever she pleases if it means protecting other people.]
no subject
There are people with the keys to stopping this. And I would protect them no matter what. One of them just so happens to be someone I'm already good friends with.
[she offers an apologetic bow]
I'm sorry, we're dumb in the same way sometimes.
no subject
Ripley's expression softens a little. She glances towards Akira's door, then returns her gaze to Makoto.]
You guys have been through a lot together, I take it?
[Just judging from the way Makoto speaks about Akira.]
no subject
Joining the Phantom Thieves was the first time I was able to do what I thought was right. To put my skills to use for something I truly believe in.
no subject
Phantom Thieves? Is that a gang name or something?
[Nothing wrong with some teen crimes!!! She's not judging. She was a teenager, once.]
no subject
[there was LOTS of teen crime going on with that group, though]
no subject
Wish I had a group of friends like that when I was younger. [She grins a little.] Back in college, it was just me and my engineering classmates doing dumb shit. Not that it wasn't fun, of course.
[But maybe she might've had some better chances at work besides corporate military gigs if she'd made more connections...]
no subject
[has she seen Akira?? just wondering]
Ripley-san, you'll have to tell me about it tomorrow.
[firmly. she's going to try emulating Akira's optimism here.]
no subject
Don't think about it. Just...get it out of your head, Ripley. You don't need any of that.]
Right. Just be sure to remind me, alright?
